Are you rushing out the door with cereal in your hand too?

Running out the door with cereal

I must admit…please don’t tell…that I’m sometimes late getting out of the house in the morning.  I throw my toothbrush and toothpaste in my purse and rush out the door with breakfast in hand. I eat my oatmeal at the stoplights wondering if I could ever be pulled over for breaking some eating in the car law!  Oddly, my morning had really started off quite relaxed.  I was able to make my bed, put the dishes away and tidy up my clothes that were on the floor from the day before.  Yet, at the last minute I’m printing off invoices and rushing to get the important things finished.  Typical.  I bet you know someone who’s a lot like this 😉  It occurred to me that if I just get the ‘must do’ things done first then any extra time can be filled with the extra things.  So, getting my clothes on and getting my bag and lunch packed should be the first things to get done (I know what you’re thinking – she should have packed her bag the night before like her last blog implied) leaving the less important things until the end, or in the evening.  This simple idea can really reduce stress. Think of how you can use this technique in other areas of your life.  For example, when you arrive at work figure out what your top three priorities are for that day and start on them immediately.  Don’t let yourself go off task to work on things that are easy or quick to do.  Try to avoid email and leave your door closed so that others are less likely to distract you.  If you start your day off being productive you will reduce your anxiety and feel energized to keep working and increase your productivity.
