It’s Christmastime and the Giving is Easy

When perusing the Internet, it turns out you can be incredibly inspired when you aren’t even expecting it. I recently stumbled upon this video and I’d love it if you paused your busy day and took a look too.

As a professional organizer who assists clients with clearing out clutter, I am very familiar with charities that accept donations of clothing, furniture and various other gently used household items. When the holidays come along, many of these charities require even more donations for families in need.

If you’re like me, I’ve found that I absolutely want to donate my excess unwanted items but making the time seems almost impossible. One month’s days fill up so fast!

Here’s the best organizing idea to ensure you don’t miss another year’s opportunity to give: email your friends right now and make a plan to collect items for your favourite local shelter. Set a time and date to have everyone meet and bring all their donations. If you feel like you don’t have much to give, you’ll be surprised – start by purging your bathroom as women’s shelters are in desperate need of your toiletries.

Once your donations have been handed over, I promise you’ll walk out of the shelter feeling like you received the real gift.

I understand that not all the best ideas can be followed through on. If it’s simply not possible at this time of year to get your items together, put a reminder in your calendar for the end of January to compile and donate. Your gift of sharing is a blessing all year round.

All I want for Christmas is for you to savour the season with as little stress and clutter as possible.
