Setting Exercise Goals

What’s your fitness goal? Losing weight? Achieving greater strength? Increasing your stamina? Building muscle?

Having fitness goals is the key to a successful fitness program. It’s also important to write these goals down and journal this process because your goals will change. Your journal can also be used to schedule your workouts and stay accountable.

My best advice to set yourself up for success is to take baby steps. For example: you want to lose 25 pounds of fat. That number can be very overwhelming, so break the goal down. Start with 10 pounds then break that down per month and once you get to that goal, you can reassess your goal. By journaling the process, this allows you to easily look back and see what worked and what didn’t. How you overcame obstacles or what traps you fell into that you know now to avoid.

Once you reach your goal, give yourself a treat. A very powerful motivational tool that one client used was to buy a dress for an upcoming wedding that was 2 sizes too small. She thought about that dress every workout and ended up fitting into it in 2 and half months!
